The Anarchist Mountain Fire Department thanks “Our Amazing Thrift Shop at Osoyoos United Church” for its donation of $2000.00 to benefit the Fire Department!
Our Amazing Thrift Shop is located in the church basement and began in 1973 as “The Bottom Drawer” with the volunteers taking their guidance from “Dorcas” in the Bible to do charitable works in the community and the world. Dorcas, or Tabitha, was a disciple who lived in the town of Joppa, a city on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Israel. She was a charitable person who made things, especially clothing, for the needy in Joppa. These thrift shop volunteers are affectionately known at “the Dorcas Ladies”.
The thrift shop, managed by Anne Polischuck is staffed by 4-6 women on each shift, some from the church but many from around the Osoyoos community. It is a non-profit organization that provides an important service to the buying public as well as those who are downsizing and need to dispose of useful merchandise.
