That is the message fire and life safety educators will promote during Fire Prevention Week 2016. From Oct. 9-15, 2016, fire departments from across Canada and the United States work to raise public awareness about the dangers of fire and how to prevent it. The aim of the 2016 Fire Prevention Week campaign is to raise awareness and keep your family safe by replacing smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old. To check how old your smoke alarm is, look at the date of manufacture on the back of the alarm; the alarm should be replaced 10 years from that date. Smoke alarms save lives.
If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out!
