Burning is permitted when venting index is 55 or more only during periods where open burning is permitted (i.e. there is no burn ban in effect.)
The “venting index” is put out by the Ministry of Environment and lets you know if the venting of air is good enough to allow smoke to escape so that it does not affect your neighbours. By law, you may only burn when the venting index is “good” ( a number between 55 and 100) and other weather issues won’t cause an increased risk of fires (ie. high winds) . You may check out the venting index by going to this site: Venting Index and look for the number at the correct time for “Okanagan”.
